Hey girls - We've traveled so many places together. And next year, we're celebrating our special year in magnificent Italy! We're going on an amazing tour in the Prosecco region northwest of Venice. Ortensia Blu Italian Adventures is taking care of everything, so all we need to do is just show up.
Laney Sachs along with Veneto local Monica Busatto will be our guides for seven exceptional days and six nights exploring and touring this glorious part of Italy. Prosecco and the gorgeous vineyards are just a part of what we'll see. We'll stay in the charming medieval town of Asolo, known as the Pearl of the Veneto, located about an hour outside of Venice at the Albergo al Sole hotel, an historic 5 star boutique hotel housed in a 16th century villa.
We'll have our own comfortable minibus and visit some of the fascinating sights of the region. For six nights and seven days, the only decision we might have to make is...red or white.
Our itinerary** goes like this...
Day 1 - May 23
Afternoon check in and free time to settle in. Asolo is charming and ready for us to explore. Spend the afternoon meandering around the winding alleys and enjoy the beautiful shops in Asolo or perhaps sit at a cafe and enjoy a Spritz. Dinner will be our first taste of local cuisine and the first of many sips of Prosecco at a restaurant just across the piazza.
Day 2 - May 24
What better way to start our adventure together than with a walk through a vineyard, a Prosecco cantina tour and tasting followed by a hilltop lunch with a spectacular view of the entire region. The afternoon brings a very special visit to a Cartizze vineyard, the most exclusive type of Prosecco. A lovely osteria for dinner, will be our home for the evening.
Day 3 - May 25
An incredibly special day as we take a boat down the Sile River to the Venetian lagoon and cruise around the islands of Murano and Burano, enjoying a spectacular lunch on Burano savoring local fish and wine. Our boat will drop us off in Venice so we can experience the magnificence of Venice in the evening for dinner.
Day 4 - May 26
Of course while in Italy, we'd like to cook and learn some new recipes which is exactly what we have planned. Our cooking class takes place at a country home and we'll enjoy lunch in the garden with the fruits of our labor. The afternoon is to relax and shop. Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 5 - May 27
Our excursion takes us to the medieval town of Cittadella. Monday is market day and you'll be able to shop like the locals, explore the town, visit the nearby shops and have lunch on your own. We'll even take a stroll along the top of the wall seeing the magnificent views including the Dolomites in the distance. The afternoon includes tastings of local spirits and wine. Our first stop is one of the oldest Grappa distilleries for a guided tour and tasting. Next is a centuries old Palladian villa where we'll enjoy the historic family's red wines, white wines and olive oil. The evening brings us to relax and dine at a very special agriturismo surrounded by a Prosecco vineyard.
Day 6 - May 28
We start the day learning how to make pizza from a local pizzaiolo. Next is a very unique visit to a buffalo mozzarella factory where we'll see first hand the attention that goes into producing this amazing cheese. The beautiful city of Treviso follows where our guide will show us what makes this city so fascinating. You'll have free time to walk around on your own, have a bite to eat if you're still hungry and shop in the wonderful stores of Treviso. Our final dinner and last glass of Prosecco together caps an end to our 60th Birthday Italian Style.
